How-to: Comment Field Throughout Workflow Chain

Issue:

How to add a field to an entity so that the field is viewable and writable throughout the workflow chain?

Solution:

Although it’s possible to add a Comment column (Free text) to the last protocol in a workflow and allow these Comments to propagate throughout the chain, there is no “One Size Fits All” approach. Considerations such as transition strategies, and how/when these comments will be updated and the cumulative comment visibility play an important role in determining how this should be accomplished.
