Course Case Study

Case Study

Throughout this Super User MasterClass, we will reference the process of patients volunteering to donate blood as a backdrop for how to create content in the User Interface (UI). When a patient volunteers, they can chose to donate either Red Blood Cells, Plasma, or Platelets.

What is blood made up of?

How many blood types are there?

The 4 blood groups and 2 Rh factors create a total of 8 possible combinations.

Donation Process

Below is an overview of the donation process, which captures the overall process, the relationship between Entities, where they will be stored, and what Items will be consumed. This Process Flow Diagram (PFD) is created at the beginning of every L7|ESP implementation to provide a high level overview of the business process and its components.

What does this business process look like in L7|ESP?

Once completely modeled, the donation process is represented by a series of six (6) Workflows.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, every L7|ESP implementation must start with an understanding of the fundamental building blocks of any process: Entities and Protocols.

The remainder of today will focus on Entities and how to model them, along with storage location management in L7|ESP.

Tuesday: modeling inventory items, understanding the relationship between Projects and Experiments, and how to model Protocols in L7|ESP.

Wednesday: modeling Workflows and Workflow Chains in L7|ESP, and an introduction to the capstone project (mock implementation).

Thursday: Capstone project.
